Government Involvement
The Uttar Pradesh government has made Naimisharanya's development a priority, planning it on the lines of major religious destinations such as Ayodhya, Kashi, and Mathura. The government formed the Naimisharanya Tirtha Parishad to oversee planning and implementation.
Significant budgetary allocations have been made, including ₹90.3 crore sanctioned for infrastructure, beautification, and tourist facilities in 2025-26. Projects span amenities like ghats, spiritual parks, entrances, lighting, and corridor development.
CM Yogi Adityanath has emphasized restoring the pilgrimage site’s ancient glory to stimulate both religious significance and economic growth. There is active promotion to increase employment opportunities through tourism and infrastructure development.
Infrastructure upgrades include road widening, better rail and road connectivity, and new helicopter services linking to Lucknow, Ayodhya, and Varanasi. These developments improve accessibility for pilgrims and tourists.
Efforts also focus on preserving cultural heritage while enhancing tourist experience through modern facilities without compromising antiquity.
Growth in Naimisharanya
The number of pilgrims has increased sharply, with annual visitor counts rising from about 1 crore in 2017 to over 2 crore recently. Important religious events also see a surge in attendance, indicating increasing popularity and footfall.
Tourism infrastructure has improved markedly, contributing to greater visitor convenience and attractions. New projects such as solar-lit heritage roads, upgraded parking, and public spaces are underway.
Multiple new projects (28 approved for 2025-26) with a combined budget of around ₹90 crore are being implemented to boost pilgrimage tourism, including corridors to link key temples and heritage spots, beautification projects, and spiritual parks.
Funds earmarked specifically for the Vaidik Vigyan Kendra, including the Vedic library, temple, Gurukul, and research facilities, amounting to several tens of crores as part of the broader development budget.
Additional allocations to support the overall pilgrimage site development under the Shri Naimisharanya Dham Teerth Vikas Parishad, covering cultural preservation, infrastructure, tourism facilities, and accessibility improvements.
Larger tourism budgets in Uttar Pradesh (₹400+ crore) include specific provisions for Naimisharanya’s development alongside other key religious destinations.
